Roana is the leather that a tannery in Pisa was come up with that the ‘big fancy designer who I make shoes for’ thought was real Shell Cordovan. They sent to us to use for his orders, but we had to tell him that it was not, in fact, Shell Cordovan at all. Still, we liked it so are using it in some various shoes now on the market in Italy. This particular client did not want to invest all the way in shell, so we used this as a claf alternative. He was very happy, and so was I…the leather is nice. Beefier feel than classic calf. I’ll think about it for stock as I go forward and there really is no downside to it. It does not have the grain a good piece of French calf will have, but it sheds water a little better. Well, doesn’t spot up, anyway. Seemed to me more or less the same but a different look.

How is Roana calf (waxy) different from Black Calf?
What are its benefits and downsides compared to black calf
Gorgeous boot, like the extra brogueing where the facings attach with the vamp
