I just received my first pair of Rider Boots. I purchased the Brandy Plain Toe from Leffot after much conversation with Ron. I had just recently purchased the Alden Plain Toe with crepe sole (on the barrie last) from Leather Soul. It was a great shoe. Unfortunately, only about a week after, I saw these boots and began obsessing over them! Finally pulled the trigger and received them yesterday.
First, they are more beautiful in person than the photos (and with some of the extraordinary camera work these days, that is not always the case). But the best part is the fit. If you are an Alden fan, you will like these better — at least in my opinion. Here is why:
I have 3 pair of Indy Boots. For a true work boot and simple knock around boots, these are hard to beat. The trubalance last is great. True fitting in the toe box and comfortable (and why not, they are work boots!) The barrie last for boots looks much sleeker than the Indy, however, this last is much narrower in the toe box. Although a nice looking last, it simply is not as comfortable as the trubalance. The last used on the rider boots is a tweener. Has a toe box almost as wide as the trubalance, yet maintains the sleek shape you see in these photos. In short, these boots have a dressier appearance and yet fit like a glove. This last is the perfect boot last!
I am sure this is all in my head because the boots look so incredible and fit so great, but these cordovan boots felt broken in the second I put them on. Almost soft! I know this because, when the boots arrived, I never took the time to inspect them, I just put them on (even though I was wearing a suit). I cannot rate these highly enough. By the way, I never intended to wear these boots with a suit — I was just too immature yesterday not to wear them when they came in. Then I forgot I was wearing them and went to an out of office meeting with one of our U.S. Congressional candidates. There were 6 in the meeting. I received 6 compliments on the boots and specifically the look of the boot with the suit. I am sure this is not true fashion — but I live in the south. Think I’ll try this combo again and again.
Ron, thank you for a great boot, always answering all of my questions, and your great service. Here’s looking forward to the next Rider PT in Natural shell cordovan!

Another new, and limited run, item is RBCB3 (95 last chukka in Horween’s Shell Cordovan) available here in Dark Cognac Shell Cordovan. We have previously only done this color on RBBAL1 but had some extra material so I made a short order for this popular chukka with Dainite sole and storm welt. Only 5 pair available (9,9.5,10,10.5,11D) at $875…..please give me a call to claim yours!
Thanks,
Ron

Next up is the RBWB2 (Wingtip boot in calfskin) done here in ‘Inca’ calfskin, which is a lighter stamped grain version of the classic Scotchgrain. Made on the great fitting 42 last, this 7 eyelet boot is our first stock boot with a Vibram Lug (or Roccia) sole and heel, and features a storm welt. Yeah, I think these are heavy duty boots…….
Only a few pair available at $720, so give me a call at the shop for more info. Riderboot inside Franco’s #804-264-2994…ask for Ron.
Thanks!

Finally here – at least the first partial delivery…..RBHB1 (aka Hobo Boot) in both Maracca and Smoke. Most, if not all, of the Mohawk Maracca is pre-sold (a run is going to Leffot, so please call Steven Taffel for more information on his stock) and I have pulled as many as possible for reservations thru Franco’s and I will be contacting those clients tomorrow. I have been told the balance of my order (another 24 pair) is shipping from Italy this Friday. The Smoke version really came out – have not shown this sample so a small run of 10 are here and ready to go.
RBHB1 is built on the new 97 last, with uppers of roughout ‘Mohawk’ calfskin, full calf lining, padded collar and the long wearing Sestriere outsole on a double leather midsole. The heel is calf and the stitching is done by hand – nothing technical, we just like the way it looks. You do too….we can tell.
Retail is $620 and feel free to give me a call at the shop with any questions or feedback. I’m at 804-264-2994 or riderboot@comcast.net. As usual, supplies are limited.

Unpacking boxes…..here is one of the new items that just arrived – RBCB1 in Horween’s Moka Shell Cordovan, which the entire first delivery is headed to Leffot in New York City.
Built on 4A last, this has become the most popular chukka to date. A very classic toe, updated 3-eyelet pattern and featuring Sestriere outsoles on a double-leather midsole and combination heel, this boot is meant to last – and be worn from dress to casual. Oh, and don’t be afraid of the weather…..no special care needed – just wear em!
ps – clean up with a little Renoveteur from Saphir and an occasional wax or cream polish in dark brown.
Ron
